Medlemsmøte 2008-02-12: Erlang og OTP

Norwegian Unix User Group (NUUG) inviterer til medlemsmøte i NUUG Oslo.
Alle medlemmer og ikke-medlemmer er velkomne. Arrangementet er gratis.
Etter foredraget (fra ca. 20:30) blir det sosialt samvær.

Presentasjonen starter presis, og dørene inn til auditoriet er låst,
så det er lurt å ankomme før 18:30 mens det er folk i døra til å
slippe deltagerne inn.

Månedens tema er «Erlang og OTP»:

This talk handles about use of Erlang in the industry - in particular in
Ericsson SGSN. SGSN is a node in packet data network routing packets for
GPRS and UMTS subscribers. Ericsson uses Erlang as a core component for
implementation of control system of SGSN - highly reliable and successful
packed data node.

Erlang is a functional language of the future. Invented by Ericsson in 1987,
became Open Source in 1998, last 2 years encounters great success over whole
world due to its unique capabilities. Erlang is designed for the most extreme
systems - concurrent, real-time and which require high reliability and
availability. Erlang lies at the core of the OTP - Open Telecommunications
Platform - an extensive framework for writing lightweight, fault-tolerant
applications. Even though it is used for complex applications - it remains
one of the simplest languages to learn.

Leslaw Lopacki is a former SGSN System Architect with 8 years of experience
in Erlang and OTP - as a programmer and architect. Currently a System Architekt
at Telenor Norway working with Metro Middleware system.
